Your Boat
As part of the "Own Boat" tuition will go over your boat to ensure the safety equipment you have on board is relevant to the boating you intend undertaking.
If you are looking at purchasing, we can advise on what equipment is necessary, and that the type of boat is really appropriate to where you want to go.
Principle Instructor
Chris Musgrave is a Commercial/Coastguard skipper with 20 years on water experience. An Instructor with first hand knowledge of the sea and it's ever changing conditions.
Starting out as a Paua diver in the deep south of NZ, now working offshore as a Skipper on Seismic survey vessels worldwide.
Winner of the National Coastguard 'Skipper of the Year' award and only the second New Zealander to attend the RHIOT School in Canada ~ a high profile heavy weather, RHIB training school for the US and Canadian Military and Coastguard.
Chris is a Coastguard Boating Education Services Tutor, Royal Yachting Association Instructor and Marine Search and Rescue Trainer and was awarded the "New Tutor of the Year" award at the CBES Boating Education Awards in 2006.
Instructors
Ross Watters has worked in the marine industry in various capacities since 1984 and as Master or Deck Officer since 1990. His time at sea has included working in tug & salvage, general cargo, commercial dive operations, survey & research vessels, and many years in sail training (including several years in square rigged ships) yacht charter & yacht delivery.
Upon emigrating to NZ in 2003 I volunteered as an active member of my local Coastguard Unit (Whangarei) subsequently becoming the Units Training Officer. Since then have become increasingly involved in NZ Coastguard as a Tutor, practical instructor & examiner for public education courses and search and rescue training
Ross brings to us a wealth of knowledge in everything from square rig ships to powerboating. Been based in Whangarei means he is available throughout Northland for Powerboat, Motorcruising and Sail courses as well as our Coastguard boating education theory courses..
